Pretty Pics from Pinterest: DIY Valentine Wreaths

It’s finally Friday!!! Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!

I trust you have all made it safely and happily to the end of the week, or the beginning of your week depending on what your schedule entails. Even when Friday’s weren’t the actual start to my weekend, they were always somehow happier than the rest of the week. There’s a certain jovial air about this day that we call Friday isn’t there?

Anyways, with it being Friday, and I being lazy and not wanting to edit pictures for a post, I thought I’d share some pretty images I found while in the time warp that is Pinterest.  Since Valentine’s Day is approaching, I thought it might be fun to look at some hearty crafts, particularly heart wreaths. I love to keep some type of seasonal wreath on my door, (ya know because I like everything to be dressed, I don’t want any indecent doors around my house), and I’ve been looking for that perfect Valentine wreath. So, here’s a few crafty wreaths I’ve found around the interwebs.

Tablesetting Tuseday

With Thanksgiving coming upon us, it’s time to think about all the yummy things that come along with this holiday of thankfulness (ya know aside from the blessing of having so many things to be thankful for). And to me, yummy things include pretty table settings, it’s almost beyond me to have a beautiful meal without the table being pretty too. I shouldn’t say it’s beyond me, because I can have a beautiful meal on a plain table, I’m not one to turn down a good meal, which is pretty evident by my double chins. But if you ever eat a meal at my house, the table will be set, there will be nice dishes, and cloth napkins, I’ll even dust the table of dog fur. I can’t guarantee how good the food will be, if I’m the one doing the cooking, but you will have a nice table and good company. It’s an odd thing with me, maybe it’s too much Pinterest, but I really find joy in setting up a nice table. So, this past weekend, when I had sunlight and some extra time, I set up a mock dinner party for two.

Outside, in the backyard, because really, I was too lazy to clean off our actual dining table. Besides it’s way more fun to play dinner party outside, and I couldn’t resist the great weather. Come on, in the 60’s in mid November?? It’s a warm weather girls dream!

I set a pretty simple table, a few pumpkins and some apples. The table runner is actually a red flat sheet and a flower-y scarf I had laying around. I like the layered look in both my wardrobe and my table.

The pedestal the apples sit in came from Goodwill, it’s wooden. I don’t know what kind of wood, but since I’m on a big wooden bowl and tray kick lately I thought it would make a nice addition to my wooden hoard. Plus, it gives the table some height, there’s nothing more boring than a table with nothing to draw the eye to different levels. At least, IMO. Geez, I sound like such a table setting snob don’t I?

The plates, bowl and charger are all new-ish, nothing vintage about them. But that amber colored glass you see, is a thrifted item, actually he has 5 other brothers in the cupboard waiting for that next glass of sweet tea.

So, today, I’m thankful for warm sunny days that lend themselves to a lazy-fake-dinner-party good time. Deep huh?

31 Days Day 6: Procrastination

Happy Saturday all! I trust you are all having a smashing good time this weekend. As you are reading this I am working on a few projects to share with you this coming week. Maybe you won’t be subjected to my fake autumn-ness outside again, there’s nothing that says fall is in the air like fake flowers.

So, on this 6th day of 31 Days of Getting it Done, I thought it might be fun to  look at some pretty pictures from Pinterest.  You know, because that’ll really help in hacking away at that long to do list! Maybe I should have named this series 31 Days of Procrastination.

Anywho, on with the eye candy. I’ve been thinking about organized entry ways lately, particularly entry ways that really aren’t entryways, but more of a door and then suddenly the living room. At least, that’s how it is at my house, when you walk in through the front door you step directly into my living room. Which means that all those things you carry into the house with you, get plopped down right by the door. Keys, purses, shoes, wallets, anything and everything that is part of “leaving the house” gets thrown on the floor or the end table near the door. So, it’s become apparent I need to do something to wrangle all that clutter. Thanks to Pinterest, I have a few ideas to work from. Hopefully, you’ll get to see the outcome, you know I’m not the greatest finisher of these types of thing

Both of these came from Martha Stewart, if you are curious about the original context, click on the image to be taken to the original link. I liked the use of both baskets and hooks, especially the baskets that are mounted to the wall. I’ve got a couple of vintage locker baskets that would be perfect for something like this.

Via Modern Parents Messy Kids

The bars with huge “S” hooks looks like it might be an easy fix to a messy problem. I especially like the cork board on the wall, and that mail sorter thing-a-ma-gig.

Via I Heart Organizing

Speaking mail sorting things, I liked what was done in this little entryway, in particular those cute little rainboots. If only it rained enough here to constitute purchasing my own little rain boots, but alas, in the desert there is no need for such boots. Wonder if anyone makes cute sand boots??

And with that deep thought, I leave you to enjoy your Saturday!

Pretty Pics from Pinterest: Humor Edition

The end of the work week brings with it the joys of the coming weekend, and with the weekend come plans on how to use that precious non-work time. Every weekend, I set a goal on how to properly and adequeately squeeze as much as I can out of that non-work time.  Last weekend I wanted to make the sunroom more inhabitable, that didn’t happen. Instead I ended up spending my time doing chores that were screaming for attention, like the ever growing pile of laundry and the fur bunnies that often propagate under my couch. (A note on fur bunnies: if you have large dogs that have fur, then you will have fur bunnies, not dust bunnies, fur bunnies. And I can’t forget to mention the fur tumble weeds, those are the most distressing. End Note)

So this week on Pretty Pics from Pinterest, I’m not going to set any type of virtual goal for myself. My only goal is to relax, oh yeah and finally do the dishes. Can you believe the amount of spoons and bowls we use in my house hold? I would swear we eat more than just cereal and porridge! Anyways, I wanted to end this very busy work week on a light note. Instead of pretty pictures, let’s look and things that make us laugh shall we? By the way, if you want to see the original source, click on the image.  To the best of my knowledge these are the original sources, but I can’t make any guarantees.

And with that I wish you a tail waggin’, ears flappin’ in the wind weekend!

Pretty Pics from Pinterest: Sunrooms

Hello Friday!! This week sure felt a lot longer than 4 days, maybe it was that extra long weekend that threw me for a loop, but things have really been a little weird this week. I just couldn’t get back into the swing of things, but it’s Friday now so I’ll worry about getting back into the swing of things on Monday! With it being Friday, that means it’s time for my weekly Pretty Pics from Pinterest post, this week we’ll be oogling some pretty sunrooms. I’ve been working on a little sunroom make over at my house, our sunroom has sort of been a catch all for the stuff we couldn’t let go of, but didn’t really know what to do with. That sort of sounds like the rest of the house doesn’t it?

Anyways, I’ve decided it’s high time that the sun room become a room that we can actually use. Our house is pretty small, about 950 sq ft excluding the sun room. So, we really need that extra hanging out space that the sun room provides. I’ve gotten the room fairly well cleaned out there are just a few things left to do. This weekend I have made a promise with myself to finally finish it, or at least put some curtains up. With that in mind I’ve been hitting up Pinterest for some finishing off design ideas for this sunny little room.

By the way, if you are on Pinterest and would like to follow me, I am April@theyellowcasa.wordpress.com, I still don’t know how to put a Pinterest button on my little blog. Maybe I need to own my domain? Does anyone know how to get those snazzy Facebook and Pinterest buttons??

Anywho, on with the eye candy! As always, if you are interested in seeing the original source of these pretty pics click on the photo or the link provided below the photo to be taken to the original website.

I love the colors she used in this room, and that coffee table is awesome, her how to can be found here.  Also, those floors are a cool idea as they are wood look tile. I toyed with the idea of putting those throughout our house, but threw the idea out when I priced out how much that would cost for the whole house. Instead we went with vinyl plank floors, you can read more about my floors here.

Julia at Hooked on Houses has such a sweet sun room, it looks like the kinda place you could curl up and read a book in. I am really loving the green and yellow she used in this room.

How could I not include John and Sherry’s sun room, they are the rock stars of home blogs and DIY renovations, if you haven’t heard of them you definitely need to check them out. So, I am sharing their room because I loved their floor embellishments and window treatments. I may have to utilize their curtain concept for my sun room, soft yet still allows the light in and the view to be seen.

There ya have it, three gorgeous sun rooms, if that doesn’t give me motivation to finally get my sunny room functional I don’t know what will.

Have a happy weekend everyone!!!

Pretty Pics From Pinterest: Outdoor Dinner Parties

Well, we made it to Friday, the weekend has arrived! Aren’t you excited? I can’t wait to eat waffles and ignore the growing fur bunnies under my couch.  (We don’t grow dust bunnies, we grow fur bunnies. If you have a dog that sheds profusely then you’ll totally understand the fur bunnies.). As I had mentioned in my previous post, it’s a three day weekend!! (!!!!) Which gives me an extra day to eat those yummy waffles and watch the persistent fur bunnies grow under the couch. With Labor Day weekend upon us, it kind of feels like summer is coming to an end, even though summer doesn’t officially end until September 22. Doesn’t it feel like fall is rushing in and stealing summer from us? Maybe it’s just the warm weather girl in me, but I’m always a little sad to see summertime come to a close. I love fall and spring and can tolerate winter, but summer seems to be the season I mourn the most when those transitional times come upon us every few months. Although, I’m the type that gets sad when her food is over, so maybe I just have some attachment issues.

Anywho, back to the point of this post, the end of summer. This summer I didn’t have any get togethers, mainly because the last get together we had at the house was so stressful I wasn’t sure if I could put myself through all that trauma again. Trauma you ask, from a party you ask? Let’s just say it involved the police pounding on my door at 6am and a fire truck. (You can read about that drama here and here)

Since I chose not to put myself threw the ringer this year, I wanted to spy on a few outdoor parties from Pinterest. I love Pinterest, it gives me blogging material for Fridays! 😀 If you are curious about the original source of these pretty pics, click on the picture or the link below the picture and you’ll be taken to the original website.

Pretty Pics From Pinterest: Front Porches

Hello, and welcome to Friday!! Fridays have always felt like a holiday to me, everyone seems to be a little more jovial and those smiles  seem to come a lot easier than they do on say, a Monday.  So, with Friday upon us and the weekend knocking at the door, I thought it might be fun to look at some Pretty Pics from Pinterest. Just to get myself in the mood for the weekend, and maybe in the mood to finally get something done around the house. It might be time to review my 2012 Home Goals next week, I fear I may be sorely failing in some areas.

Anywho, since the weather is cooling off a bit and fall is soon to be here, followed by winter (a season I don’t really look forward to, I’m much more of a warm weather girl.) I wanted to bask in all things outdoor, particularly front porches. They seem to be a dying art, at least in the southwest. It’s pretty rare when you see a true front porch on a house out here in the south of the westSo, let the front porch ogling begin.

Television Visionary

I am participating in a ” 31 Days of…” series for the month of October. You see a whole bunch of sweet blogger buddies have been getting together the past few years to do 31 posts in 31 days. The topic is always something they have a passion for. This year they have invited all of their readers to post 31 days of their passions. If you are interested in participating in the 31 Days of…series, or you’re just curious about what everyone else is writing about, please visit The Nester, Jen, Melissa, Sandy, Darcy, Emily, and Emily. I hope you enjoy my series on finding treasures both vintage and of the heart. Let’s hope I can overcome my inconsistent blogging habit and share those 31 posts within the next 31 days!

The first week of this 31 Days of Treasures series brought us many vintage treasures that have found their way into my home. But this week, I thought it might be fun to explore how to use these treasures in your home. Some treasures may not be vintage, but they will certainly be repurposed and really cool! My first and most favorite of these treasures is an old TV repurposed into a dog bed.

What a great way to create something useful and pretty out of something old and not so pretty.

Well, I’m off to find an old TV to pretty-ify!

Basket Case

Day 6 of 31 Days of Treasures, I hope you aren’t getting bored by this tour de junk, or report me to “Horaders”.  Call me a basket case if you want, but at least I’ve got my cool baskets to cling to.

A pair of old locker baskets to be exact. These were picked up for $5 each at an estate sale a few weeks ago. I love the metal tags that still plainly read “The Washburn Company, Worchester Mass, Rockford RI” with the locker numbers still readable.

They usually live under my coffee table in the living room. Which is a post in and of itself, it’s no longer dark brown I recently painted this table white so it didn’t blend in with the couch so much.

I temporarily put one of our new/old cookbooks in a basket when I was speed cleaning the house a while back. We have so many of these vintage cookbooks, the Bubba and I have had to dedicate a few shelves on our bookcase just for these guys.

I am still trying to figure out how to display my cute metal baskets, here are a few inspirational shots I found on Pinterest.

Locker baskets as shelves.

I could use them in the kitchen to hold my potatoes.

Or they could hold the shelter mags I’m currently reading.

There are so many options for these baskets. How would you use them?
