I am participating in a ” 31 Days of…” series for the month of October. You see a whole bunch of sweet blogger buddies have been getting together the past few years to do 31 posts in 31 days. The topic is always something they have a passion for. This year they have invited all of their readers to post 31 days of their passions. If you are interested in participating in the 31 Days of…series, or you’re just curious about what everyone else is writing about, please visit The Nester, Jen, Melissa, Sandy, Darcy, Emily, and Emily. I hope you enjoy my series on finding treasures both vintage and of the heart. Let’s hope I can overcome my inconsistent blogging habit and share those 31 posts within the next 31 days!

The first week of this 31 Days of Treasures series brought us many vintage treasures that have found their way into my home. But this week, I thought it might be fun to explore how to use these treasures in your home. Some treasures may not be vintage, but they will certainly be repurposed and really cool! My first and most favorite of these treasures is an old TV repurposed into a dog bed.

What a great way to create something useful and pretty out of something old and not so pretty.

Well, I’m off to find an old TV to pretty-ify!

Shall I introduce you to Sir Mix-A-Lot?

Sorry to get your hopes up, it’s just a mixer, not the rapper. But it’s a pretty cool mixer if you ask me. Last weekend I purchased the 4200 Dormeyer mixer for $5, with all original parts and the manual, including the milk glass mixing bowls which is what drew me in. It was a deal I could NOT pass up. And it works! I tried it out the other day and didn’t burn down the house! WOO-HOO! A thousand points for not having to meet the fire department yet again!

The only piece that’s missing is the wooden pestle or, the smasher in April terms. I assume it was for the meat grinder, doesn’t the sound yummy?

I loved the settings this puppy has…

Plus, if your clueless in the kitchen like me, it’s got all the measuring conversions…

I really don’t think this has much re-sale value as the brand isn’t all that well known. But I love it and am currently researching how I could get this little gem back into a usable and safe condition. Because really, where can you find a stand mixer for $5 ?

Day 6 of 31 Days of Treasures, I hope you aren’t getting bored by this tour de junk, or report me to “Horaders”.  Call me a basket case if you want, but at least I’ve got my cool baskets to cling to.

A pair of old locker baskets to be exact. These were picked up for $5 each at an estate sale a few weeks ago. I love the metal tags that still plainly read “The Washburn Company, Worchester Mass, Rockford RI” with the locker numbers still readable.

They usually live under my coffee table in the living room. Which is a post in and of itself, it’s no longer dark brown I recently painted this table white so it didn’t blend in with the couch so much.

I temporarily put one of our new/old cookbooks in a basket when I was speed cleaning the house a while back. We have so many of these vintage cookbooks, the Bubba and I have had to dedicate a few shelves on our bookcase just for these guys.

I am still trying to figure out how to display my cute metal baskets, here are a few inspirational shots I found on Pinterest.

Locker baskets as shelves.

I could use them in the kitchen to hold my potatoes.

Or they could hold the shelter mags I’m currently reading.

There are so many options for these baskets. How would you use them?

Wanna go to the show?

Day 5 of 31, not even a week into this little bloggie challenge and I’m already burnt out. Maybe it’s the weather, dark and rainy, very unusual for the always sunny New Mexico. Or maybe it’s the fact that it’s been nearly 4 months that I’ve posted more than 1 post a week. And I know it certainly couldn’t be the fact that I have absolutely no time management skills, and that none of the pictures I have stock piled for this series are appealing to me today.  And I’m really regretting not being one of those bloggers that pre-writes  (yes, that’s a word and if it isn’t a word I’m making it a word!)  all of her posts  a week in advance. So, what to share with you today? What’s the cure for these blog blues?

How about a little childhood nostalgia, from my era…

Ahh…that’s better, a 1980’s hero of mine, Strawberry Shortcake. I can almost smell that fake strawberry scent now.

Bubba surprised me with this little mug a few weeks ago. It takes me back to 1986 everytime I glance at it.  If you’re not familiar with Strawberry Shortcake, you can find out more here.

I always wanted that sweet smelling doll, but ended up with Rainbow Bright instead. Which was fine by me, since my sweet big sister took me to see all the Rainbow Brite movies and all the Care Bear movies, or any hokie kid movie that tickled my fancy. In fact, Rainbow Brite was the first movie I saw at an actual theater, or if you lived in our little town, it was the “show”. The local theater only had one  screen, so they showed one movie at a time, there was the 7 o’clock show and the 9 o’clock show. It was never ,” Ya wanna go to the movies?” it was always “Wanna go to the show?”.  I was 5 or 6 when my big sister who was either 17 or 18 at the time, took me to the show, and patiently sat through the corny-ness that is Rainbow Brite. She sweetly bought me a popcorn and soda, which I promptly gobbled up before the movie started. Then asked for a refill, which she politely denied me, in which I stated that it was time to leave since we ate our popcorn and drank our sodas, because that’s why you go to the show, you eat your snacks, then go home and watch the movie.  Imagine my surprise when the lights went out and I got see one of my favorite cartoons on the big screen! That certainly blew my little kid mind, I don’t think I blinked during the entire movie. There’s certainly something about seeing a movie on the big screen. I’ve been hooked on going to the “show” ever since.

What does that little memory have to do with Strawberry Shortcake? Absolutely nothing, I just thought it might be fun to share a little memory treasure with you today.

What are some of your favorite memories that you treasure?

Apparently, I’ve got a theme going on here, other than the theme of vintage treasures that is. I had intended on sharing this with you yesterday, but after I hit that publish button, I just didn’t have the heart to go back through and add this little treasure.

Mendets! Everyone should keep a package in their kitchen, for those leaky pot emergencies!

This is another Bubba purchase, apparently he found this treasure at a yard sale. The older lady who was holding the sale, told him that he needed to buy this for his wife. Obviously, she hadn’t met me, and had no idea how far away from domesticity I had gone. Or maybe she had a feeling I’d appreciate it’s vintage quality. Still, it gave me and Bubba a good laugh, and the packaging is pretty cool.

According to this site Mendets were first used in 1908, a patent was given to the Collete Manufacturing Company of Amsterdam in June of 1950. The patent expired in 1992 and has not been renewed, so if anyone is in the market for a new/old gadget to push I’ve got an idea! We could even use the old slogan:

“Don’t throw it away-mend it with MENDETS, mends all leaks instantly.”

I can’t attest to how instantly it mends leaks, I’ve never had a leaky pot and if I did I’d probably throw it out and get a new one. Goes to show how things have changed over time eh?  Back then, people tried to fix things and make them last as long as possible, now-a-days we just throw out the old and buy new.

At least some of us do, others sniff around yard sales, thrift stores, and roadsides hoping to find new life in others cast a ways. So, maybe it works to my advantage that we live in a disposable society. I’ve found some pretty awesome treasures in what someone else thought was trash. Unless it’s a leaky pot, because I’m not going to open my Mendets to fix it.

Of the cast iron variety! I’m not that kind of girl! And my drug of choice isn’t grown in someone’s backyard and sold discreetly at the 7 11 across the street. It can be legally purchased at Starbucks thankyouverymuch.  Although my jeans would argue that it shouldn’t be legal considering my drug of choice is usually bathed in sugar and topped with creamy goodness. If your completely confused by my tangents and have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a picture… (if I’ve still got your attention and you haven’t run off to get your own cup of sugar and creamy goodness.)

This pot is a Griswold Double Hinged Skillet. (Looks like he’s smiling for the camera doesn’t it?)  He was picked up at Goodwill for $30, apparently that’s a pretty good deal on a skillet from this maker. Honestly, I’m not the one who picks this sort of thing up. Bubba is the cook of casa de yellow so he’s usually the one on the look out for this sort of thing.

According to this site our skillet could be from 1940’s or later. And apparently, it’s not considered “good” metal since the Griswold is not in italic letters. After 1940, diminished metal was used to make cast iron pots, and Griswold stopped italicizing it’s name within the cross after that point. But again, I’m not an expert on cast iron, I just like old stuff and history. This little skillet wasn’t purchased for it’s monetary value, it was merely purchased for it’s unique quality.

See, it opens, and there’s not a lot of wear and tear on it. So, it must not have been used very often. This booger is pretty heavy too, so that might explain the lack of use. Or the original owner could have been a non-cooking April and only depended on microwave dinners and Lucky Charms to get by. Really, I have a hard time remembering how to turn the stove on. My mother thinks it’s hilarious, my Bubba not so much.

I never would have made it in the times before microwave technology, and when the women were expected to cook. My family definitely would have starved!

Well, I’m off to root around the kitchen for some Lucky Charms or maybe if I give Bubba the sweet eye he’ll make me some dinner.

In yesterdays post you got to see my “new” old camera. Today we’ll talk about the books that were sitting under the camera and a few others. You may remember seeing them in this photo.

My favorite at the moment is the “Holiday Reader”, I picked this colorful book up at an estate sale for a quarter.

The Holiday Reader was used as a Social Studies book for elementary schools in Texas. It covers all the holidays, including Robert E. Lee’s Birthday, which may have something to do with the name of the school that is stamped at the front of the book.  It was first checked out November 22, 1966, exactly two years after JFK was assassinated. I only mention that, because along with a stamp indicating the book came from Robert E. Lee Elementary School, it was also approved through Dallas Public Schools. I love old stuff, it’s so easy to tie it all into huge historical events. It makes me wonder about the stories these old items have.

The stories and poems in this book are so old fashioned, definitely something that you wouldn’t find in a text book today. Like this little poem for instance:

Thank You God

Thank you for the world so sweet.

Thank you for the food we eat.

Thank you for the birds that sing.

Thank you, God for everything.

-Mrs. E.R. Leatham

Sweet isn’t it? If you found that in a text book today lawsuits would be filed. But let’s stay on the happy vintage topic shall we?

Along with the Holiday Reader, you will find a copy of “We”, by Charles Lindburg. Apparently, it is “The famous flier’s own story of his life and his transatlantic flight, together with his views on the future of aviation.” The copyright is from 1927, so it’s a pretty old book. I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t tell you what his views of the future of aviation were, but it’s still pretty cool to have in my possession.

But what made me giggle is what I found on the inside cover…

I’ve lost a lot of books who couldn’t find their way home. I just hope they ended up in a happy place where they are enjoyed! Oh, and I have to point out those cute little airplanes on the inside of the cover.

Another of my favorites, is a very old copy of St. Elmo. I loved the picture on the front, it’s so romantic and the wear on the book makes it that much more intriguing.

I have no idea how old this copy is, but it must have been given to Mrs. Little by Billy Gleaves for Easter, at least that’s what I’m assuming.

There was also a little newspaper quote that had been tucked amongst the old pages:

Don’t Be Discouraged

When you think that you are through

And laid upon the shelf.

Then don’t give up the struggle,

Think better of yourself.

No, don’t give up the battle

Because you’re feeling blue.

There’s all your blessing to think of,

Enough to tide your through.

If things look dark and bad today,

Another day is coming;

So, count your blessings one by one,

Ere long you may be humming.

Just turn the cloud, which you can do

And see the silver lining;

For God is surely with us still,

For you the sun is shining.

-Mrs. John A. Harris

The treasures that can be found within other treasures, that’s what keeps me coming back for more.  Hopefully, it won’t get me on an episode of “Hoarders” clinging to all of my treasures in my cramped house!

The first day of 31 days, doesn’t it feel like the first day of school? Except there aren’t any new teachers to meet, or awkward seating assignments there’s only the fear of writing 31 posts in 31 days!  Although, I’m up for the challenge, especially considering I’ve decided to share 31 days of treasure hunting. No, I’m not talking about buried treasure on some deserted island, this treasure could be vintage treasures found at your local Goodwill or found-already-owned-items that can be re-purposed, or even heart treasures that the Lord has sweetly whispered. The topic of treasures could be too broad for this series, but let’s see where it takes us shall we?

On this first day of 31 days, I’ll share something old…

Can you spot it? Yeah, there’s some old books there that I plan on sharing with you later on, and there’s some ceramic pumpkins from last year, but I wouldn’t call them vintage especially since they came from the dollar store. Give up? Well, O.K.  You see that small camera there, on top of the stack of books between the pumpkins? Yep, that’s our first treasure, a 1930’s Kodak movie camera. I bought it at a local thrift store for $1.34 a couple weeks ago. And it still works! At least, something happens when it’s wound up and cranked! It’s missing a lens, and I really don’t know if film can be found for it anymore. But doesn’t it look cool sitting atop my coffee table accessorizing those books?

Here’s a side view…

And a detail shot…

You really can’t see it in the pictures above, but there are settings for different weather conditions like, bright sun on light sand or snow, plain bright sun, hazy sun, open shade in clear sky, and cloudy bright. Pretty high tech for back in the day if you ask me. The whole camera is made of metal and covered in leather, it’s a Kodak and dated 1937-1938. It’s beautifully old and one of my favorite pieces. And all for less than $2! That certainly makes for a treasure in my book.

What have you recently found that made your heart go pitter-patter?

Post One Hundred

Finally, the 100th post. Most people fall upon this milestone well within their first year of blogdom. However, I must be a late bloomer when it comes to blogging as my  post one hundred is falling 4 months after my first blogiversary. Which by the way, I nearly forgot about, and had to include in one of my monthly wrap ups. Unfortunately, those monthly wrap ups have also fallen to the way side. Consistency is boring don’t you think?

Anywho, to celebrate 100  well written and life altering posts (Har-Har), I thought it would be fun to revisit some of the milestones that occurred here at Casa de Yellow. So let’s revisit those bad photo laden and run on sentence  ridden posts shall we? (Not that you can’t find those in more recent posts.)

Way back in May 2010, this little blog that could was born. My first post extolled the joy that is Polyvore. Within this post I explained my plans for our living room, which at the time was Caribbean Sunset, a nice warm yellow tone. However,  that has recently changed to Oat Straw by Behr. It’s more of a tan with some nice grey undertones. Not as bright or jarring as Caribbean Sunset, but no less smile inducing. Here’s what I had planned for my living room in May 2010. Click the picture to see what I said about the room.

Apparently, my style choices have changed over the past 1 1/2 years.  Those choices now lean more towards neutral walls with pops of bright color here and there instead of bright walls with pops of color everywhere. I have found this change to be much more soothing to my style palette and my little eyes. Although, I still have an appreciation for color, and see nothing wrong with homes that still favor the bright walls. It’s just not for me anymore, or at least for right now. Whose to say that I won’t be repainting my walls yellow within a year?

After sharing the joys of Polyvore,  I finally talked about painting our one and only bathroom. This may not seem like a huge feat to some, but for me and Bubba it was a big deal. Our old bathroom was peach and minty green with hints of mold and water damage. So, after finally getting an exhaust fan installed to eradicate future mold issues, I was able to paint our lone loo, Cincinnatian Hotel, a pretty light blue by Valspar. Here’s what she looked like after I stuck a fork in her and called her done. (Please excuse the poor quality photo, this was taken at night with my simple point and shoot and long before I got my fancy schamancy camera.)

Not much happened in July 2010, just the usual inspiration pictures from the interwebs. I did try my hand at a book review without much ado (Woo-Hoo! Rhyming is fun!). August came, and finally something big and life changing happened…

That’s right, Bubba finally gave in and put a ring on it. Once I was over the stunned shock of being a betrothed woman, the wedding planning frenzy began, and then quickly fizzled. At first I was super excited about having a shin dig all my own. But then the stress started in, dates were set and then changed,  illnesses came and went and then came back.  All of August and September 2010 I was  laid up with a horrible case of bronchitis that caused me to lose my voice. Bubba thought this was hiliarious. Until he realized this meant he would be making all the phone calls to priests, preachers, and dressmakers. (Karma rears her ugly head! MAWHAHAHA)

With wedding planning going on, I really didn’t blog much, except to share some verses that were pretty poignant to me at the time. Actually, I still read through them. It’s like April from a year ago is teaching present day April. Those posts touched on subjects such as timing, waiting, impulsiveness, patience, and constant prayer.  At the time I was struggling with these issues, in fact I still do. So thank you 2010 April! Maybe 2011 April should leave some wise words for 2012 April.

The fall of 2010, marked a very short engagement to Bubba, teeny bit of illness and some wedding plans mixed in for good measure.  Bubs and I toyed with the idea of running off and getting married with just us. We also thought it might be nice to wait until spring had sprung to say our vows. But in the end, a quick engagement is what best suited us. After 7 years of dating bliss it was time to experience martial bliss. So, on December 29th 2010, we became Mr. and Mrs.

Getting married was stressful and if I could there would be things I would have done differently. But the man I chose to marry? I wouldn’t change that for the world. And I got to share our special day with some of my loved ones and lots of his. It really was a blessed day.

January flew by, and before we knew it we were in February. The month of love brought a new furry friend cuddle up with.

Goldie, the lovable yellow lab mix. In this post I talk about having her on a trial basis, but little did I know I’d fall for her loving brown eyes and sweet tail thumps “hello”.  I am proud to say that Goldie is now a permanent fixture in our home.

March blew in and brought with it more cold weather, and the hope of a green lush yard. Bubba and I ripped out our crusher fine in preparation for grass seed. So our yard went from this:

To this:

You can read about the beginning of the yard saga here and here. Sadly, after looking at these photos, I can see that the plants were in better health before any work happened. Wonder if it could be linked to some bad wood chips.

Here is my yard a couple months ago:

The grass that is 50% dead there, is now more like 75%. I’m hoping that by watering a little more and fertilizing it should come back. I may also over seed this fall. Here’s to hoping the dogs don’t completely destroy my efforts!

In April, things were still windy, but that didn’t stop me from celebrating my 30th birthday and taking a quick roadtrip to Arizona. Where I partook in the hype that is In-n-Out Burger. The verdict…meh. I much prefer the local favorite Lotaburger. But I’m not biased.

In May, I finally took the plunge and had our block wall stabilized and extended. In the lower part of this picture you can also see our attempts at grass seed.

June flew by, and I was working too hard to worry about maintaining a silly blog, there was a party to plan for darn it! But I did manage to complain about cheap mulch I paid a pretty penny for. Which still causes me grief when I’m stabbed by mysterious sharp objects every time I weed or clean the yard. Honestly, the stuff gives me the creeps and I fear it may be responsible for my dying established plants. GRRR

After the frustrations of June, July finally arrived! Which meant that it was finally time to party!

A great time was had by all. Even I had boo-hoos of fun! All that work and stress was so very worth it to be able to share my home with friends and loved ones.

After all the work over the summer, I wasn’t really up to much in August and September.  I spent my time trying to catch up on blog posts, general house maintenance and reconnecting with my old friend, Sir Sofa.

That’s my year and 6 month review, lots of big milestones happened over the past year and a half, our lone loo got a small makeover, I went from girlfriend, to fiance, to wife in less than a year, the backyard is slightly more grassy than it was last year, and we have our own little fortress of solitude in the back. Wonder what the 200th post will bring…

Tastes like burning…

A thousand points to anyone who can name that T.V. show!

In my post about our backyard party, I talked  about the joy of sharing our home with our friends and family for the first time, the work that went into preparing the house for such a gathering, and I touched on some of the stress that went along with such an undertaking. Like working for 3 solid months to get the yard slightly presentable, by planting grass seed then when the seed didn’t take,  having to sod over the seed just to get the dirt covered up. Then on the day of,  running to the grocery store to pick up my pre-ordered cupcakes, only to realize I really needed to go to another one a few miles further down the road. But thankfully the sweet ladies at the first grocery store kindly called around until we located the elusive cupcakes. Thank you thank you for such kind and professional people!

Unfortunately, losing the cupcakes was not the only sweat inducing obstacle of the day.  Remember in my party post I’d mentioned another stressor that involved law enforcement, the fire department, and a very sleepy April?

Well, it all started at 6 am that warm and sunny morning. You see, Bubba and I decided it would be  nice to have some home smoked brisket and pork loin so that there would  be some balance between store bought dishes and homemade dishes. So, a week before the party Bubba and I ran to the store to buy nearly 30 pounds of brisket. (No worries, we kept both of them nice and chilled in the fridge that week, so no spoiling.)

The morning of, Bubba woke bright and early at 5am to start the smoking process. Having smoked meat before, and not having any problems in the past, Bubba decided it would be fine to take the doggies on an early morning drive/stroll. While leaving me in bed asleep. By this point, I had only been in bed a couple of hours, staying up late to do some very last minute cleaning. So off Bubba, Annie and Goldie went on their adventure, while I lay peacefully asleep dreaming of a perfectly clean house with a meticulously manicured yard to host my garden party. Until I was rudely awakened.

At 6am, an hour after the meat had been put on the grill to smoke, I heard a ring at my doorbell. Thinking it was just another salesperson or possibly a Jehovah’s Witness, I ignored it and went back to sleep. 5 minutes later the door bell started ringing again, this time the door bell was accompanied by a bang on the door. I got up in a sleepy daze with my eyes barely opened, grabbed a cardigan and shuffled towards the front door. Not wanting to catch the attention of the rude soul who woke me from my slumber, but still wanting to see who it was, I peeked around the corner. Not seeing the rude soul at my door, I stumbled into the kitchen hoping to find my husband (I didn’t know he had run off with the dogs for an outing). Peeking into the backyard, I saw the grill with a few flames coming out the sides. Before I could grab my cell phone to call Bubba, or run out there with the garden hose,  I heard a bang on the living room window.  I turned around to find a police officer, who was quite perturbed it had taken so long for someone to answer the door.

Again, not really knowing where Bubba and the dogs were, I answered the door fearing the worst.  Upon opening the door , I found a police officer on my front porch, with 4 others blocking my street. Quite shaken I honestly can’t remember what the police officer’s exact words were, but it went something like this:

Officer: “Did you know there is smoke coming out of your grill?.”

Me: “Meh?”

Officer: “There’s smoke, coming out of your grill in the back.” *In a rather condescending and perturbed tone*

Me: *Rubbing my eyes to focus and actually see who had woken me up.* “There might be, my husband was going to be smoking some brisket. There’s supposed to be smoke when one is smoking meat.”

Officer: “Not that much smoke! I could see it from the highway!”

(Which highway I am unsure of, surely it couldn’t be the highway that is more than a mile from my house.)

Me: “Well, let me put it out with my garden hose. It’s not that bad.”

Officer: “Ma’am you need to get out of the house, I have dispatched the fire department.”

From there it gets blurry again, but being half asleep I still understood that he was being over cautious, which I am grateful for,  and slightly over zealous.  I told him I would be out in a minute, I just needed to grab my cell phone.

Even half asleep and in immediate “danger” of getting my eyebrows singed off I still considered my cell phone another appendage. However, there was no time to grab the cell phone, the officer grabbed my arm and not so gently guided me out of the house and across the street. Apparently, the two very large very heavy, and slightly expensive briskets had caught on fire. Which would explain the fairly small flames I saw shooting out from our beloved grill.

So off I went, to stand in front of my neighbors house, in my purple polka dot pajamas, no shoes, old NMSU t-shirt, a purple cardi (at least the cardi matched my pjs!), and a grouchy I-only-got-three-hours-sleep look on my face. The officer charged with making sure I didn’t go berzerk and say use a simple garden hose to put the fire out, kept asking me where my husband was, where the dogs were, and why we were cooking so much cow. I remember grumbling something about the party, assuming my husband took the dogs on a walk, and not quite comprehending why I had to stand across the street from my home in my pj’s when not even 10 minutes before I had been blissfully asleep in a nice warm bed.

In between his questions and my rather grumpy answers, I had requested that Bubba be phoned so that he would know our feast had been ruined and his wife was quite irate. However, (yes, there are a lot of “howevers” in this story), the number of the dispatcher appeared to be several zeros instead of an actual number on the Bub’s cell phone. So, Bubba did not pick-up nor did the dispatcher leave a voicemail.

All the while, off in the distance I heard the sirens of the fire truck  getting closer and closer. With each wail of the siren and howl of nearby dogs, I  prayed that the neighbors didn’t come out to see what all the hub bub was about. (Oh, and also that the house didn’t burn down!) Thankfully, it was so early everyone was still asleep. Besides that, hearing a siren through our neighborhood is not an uncommon occurrence.  One point for urban living!

Once the wailing had died down and the fire truck arrived with its  FIVE firemen they pulled the huge hose out (that sounded dirty) and put our little fire out. It took all but 5 minutes, and the firemen and their red firetruck were on their merry little way back to the station. I heard one of them mumble something about just using a bucket of water as he climbed back into his seat on the truck.  Apparently, my pleas for leaving me alone with a garden hose were not unfounded.

After the firemen left, the original police officer checked the grill,  and declared the backyard and my home safe for occupation once again. Thankfully, there were no citations issued only a warning to be more careful next time.

Even though I felt the police officer had over reacted, I am thankful that he did. We could have lost so much more than a couple pieces of burnt bovine and grill brush if this police officer hadn’t been so attentive. I certainly commend those who serve and protect our city, it’s certainly a difficult and under appreciated job. Oh, and our grill was saved to live on and smoke the pork loin we served at the party instead of the brisket.

Here’s a shot of the grill a couple weeks later, I was too shaken to take a picture of the charred brisket and ash after the “rescue” workers left.

(Don’t pay any attention to the crack in the patio, or the innocent Annie-dog in the background.)
